Watch Wimbledon: Noskova misses championship points and broken by Muchova serving for title
What can Muchova do to defeat Noskova?D'Arcy Maine: Continue to play her trademark, devastatingly athletic brand of tennis. Muchova can do it all on the tennis court -- and can get just about anywhere -- and she is one of the most complete players currently on tourToday’s Wimbledon ladies’ singles final offers us a unique spectacle, something worthy of a special Centre Court sunshine salute.
For the first time, two players from Czechia, a small nation of 11 million which has constantly punched above its weight in the tennis world to deliver exceptional champions, are going to face off on Centre Court for the Venus Rosewater Dish.
Either Karolina Muchova, at 29, or her 21-year-old Olympic doubles partner Linda Noskova will become the third Czech ladies’ victor in just four years. This would be remarkable enough if it wasn’t for the fact that neither of this delightful duo seems overly fazed, fussed or remotely frazzled by the lure of the history that awaits them.
Muchova did admit to feeling “shaken” after her epic semi-final win over Coco Gauff, while Noskova couldn’t quite believe her triumph over Marta Kostyuk, when she also played on Centre Court for the first time.
Yet both of this easy-going pair actually looked and sounded as if they had not been knocked out of their down-to-earth stride
at all..
